What I’ve Learned Helping Cardinal Professionals for Fifteen Years

Dan Colburn |

This week marks fifteen years since I started Colburn Wealth Management, and it’s made me reflect on how this work began. Long before it became a business, financial planning was something I did simply because I enjoyed helping people clarify their goals and make progress toward them. Over time, that early passion grew into a practice built on a simple idea: when we are intentional about the life we want, we can take meaningful steps toward making it real.

Looking back, I’m grateful to everyone who trusted me in those early days; friends, family, and many of you from my years at Cardinal. Your encouragement shaped the direction of this firm more than any business plan ever could. And the compliments that have meant the most over the years have been the ones about peace of mind: “I don’t worry anymore,” or “I’m so glad I found your service.” Those moments remind me why this work matters.

As I think about the last fifteen years, the lesson that stands out is one I see reflected in your stories as well: when you define your goals clearly and stay committed to them, you can build your own version of “utopia,” whatever that means for you. The tools, spreadsheets, and strategies are important, but the real progress comes from clarity, consistency, and confidence in the path you are choosing.

Thank you for being part of this journey, and for allowing me to be part of yours.

Take care and, as always, stay the course.
